Caldera’s In-School Residence

Teaching artists, CLICK HERE to apply online for Caldera’s 2014 – 2015 In-School Residency opportunity. Application deadline is August 15, 2014.

Innovative proposals are now being accepted by artists of any discipline experienced in teaching in a middle school setting for our one-week in-school residencies at our partner middle schools during the 2014-2015 school year.

If accepted, artists will teach one-week residencies (typically four classes per day of about 30 students each for five days) and offer integrated teacher training for 1- 3 hours as fits the schools’ schedules and needs. Caldera offers one week-long residencies in each of our partner middle schools each year. The residencies culminate in assemblies, performances, etc. that reach each school’s full student body.

Proposals are open for applicants to design one-week programs in one or more schools in Portland and Central Oregon tailored to the unique needs of each community and focusing on our organization-wide year-long theme, The Geography of We: Humans, Wildlife and the Habitats We Share. This project will provide students with intensive year-long instruction in transmedia art. Students will receive instruction in storytelling techniques that range from traditional forms to cutting edge digital media. Through various mediums/platforms we look to tell stories inspired from such questions as: What is the local flora and fauna? What are we doing to protect local habitats? How do humans and animals interact, share habitat? How do we impact habitats?

Deadline: August 15, 2014

Residency Dates: November 1, 2014 – April 30, 2015

Proposals accepted at: http://calderaarts.org/caldera/arts-in-residence/application/

Stipend: $500 a week and a 4-week residency at Caldera’s Arts Center on Blue Lake per in-school residency OR $1000 per in-school residency. Materials budget: $250.
