February and March Open Studios
By Elizabeth Quinn
Artist in Residence Coordinator
Caldera’s Artists in Residence program offers the gift of time and space. Upon being selected through a jury process, we welcome artists from all over the world to our Caldera Arts Center near Sisters, Oregon, for month long residences. Artists are provided private A-frame cabins and share access to wet and dry studios, a darkroom, a kiln, editing facilities and rehearsal and performance space. Because we believe a range of backgrounds enhances the communal experience, residencies are open to artists from any field, as well as scientists, engineers and environmentalists. Since 2002, we have served over 270 artists. In 2010 the Ford Family Foundation recognized our residency program with an Oregon “Golden Spot” award.
For the next two months join Caldera in celebrating the inspiring work of its Artist in Residency participants. Listen to poets and musicians, see paintings, sculptures and contemporary theater and enjoy a gathering of community all during AiR Open Studios. Saturday, February 25 and March 24, residents will read, present and exhibit their work in a special event from 1 to 3pm at the Caldera Arts Center.
The audience will move from the Grand Room, the Library and into the studios to experience residents’ creative process and works-in-progress from their month long stays at Caldera. Winter treats and beverages are provided.
